Age,growthandreproductionofSarcocheilichthysnigripinnisfromtheQingyiStreamintheHuangshanMountains, PP. 25-31 Keywords: Sarcocheilichthysnigripinnis,Agestructure,Annulusformation,Sexualmaturity,Spawningperiod,Reproductiveinvestment Abstract: Identifyingthelife-historystrategiesoffishandtheirassociationswiththesurroundingenvironmentisthebasicfoundationintheconservationandsustainableutilizationoffishspecies.Weexaminedtheage,growth,andreproductionofSarcocheilichthysnigripinnisusing352specimenscollectedmonthlyfromMay2009toApril2010intheQingyiStream.Wefoundthesexratioofthisstudypopulationwas0.58:1(female:male),significantlydifferentfromexpected1:1.Femalesandmalesbothcomprisedfouragegroups.TheannulionthescaleswereformedduringFebruaryandMarch.Noobviousbetween-sexdifferencewasobservedinlength-weightandlength-scale-radiusrelationships.Thetotallengthinback-calculationsignificantlyincreasedwithageforbothsexes,butdidnotdiffersignificantlyateachagebetweenthetwosexes.AninflectionpointwasobservedinthegrowthcurvesgivenbythevonBertalanffygrowthfunctionfortotalweight.Atthisinflectionpoint,fishwere3.95years.Bothsexesreachtheir50%sexmaturityatage2,whenfemalesandmaleswere94.7mmand103.0mmtotallength.Thetemporalpatternofthegonado-somaticindexcorrespondedtoaspawningperiodthatoccurredfromAprilthroughJuly.Thenon-synchronicityofeggdiameterineachmatureovaryduringthebreedingperiodsuggestedthesefishmaybebatchspawners.Theabsolutefecundityincreasedsignificantlywithtotallengthandweight,whereasnosignificantcorrelationwasobservedbetweentherelativefecundityandbodysize.
