GeoeconomicProcessesintheNorthwesternAdriaticCoastalPlainDOI: 10.11821/xb199906009, PP. 550-558 Keywords: Geoeconom,ic,processes,Italy,Adriatic,coast,Po,delta,Venice,lagoon,Tourist,developm,ent Abstract: TherearemanyreasonsforinterestinthenorthwesternAdriaticcoastalplain,suchassubsidence,beacherosion,industrialpollution,increasingseasideconurbation,andenviron-mentalpreservation.Theregionasdefinedhasaninnerborderthatisbothamorphologicalandhistoricallimitofpermanentsettlement.Theprogressiveexploitationofthisspacehasdemon-stratedthatitisaregionorganizedintoparallelstripswithhomogeneouscharacteristicsthatco-incidewiththedifferentphasesofthehumanizationofthecoastalarea.However,sincetheSec-ondWorldWar,therehasbeenaremarkabledifferentiation,becauseofreclamation,polarizedindustrialdevelopment,theconstructionofatouristconurbationand,especially,theadminis-trativedivisionoftheentirecoastalstrip,adivisionthatinfluencesthepoliciesofterritorialor-ganization.Thus,todate,thevariouscoastalsubareashavenocommonteleologythatrenderstheentireregionasystemicwhole.
