COMPARATIVE EVALUATION AND ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY OF OCIMUM BASILICUM LINN. (LABIATAE)DOI: 10.1234/jgpt.v2i5.66 Keywords: Antibacterial activity , Ocimum basilicum , diarrhea Abstract: Different extracts from the dried leaves and flowering topes of Ocimum basilicum (sweet basil) family Labiatae were evaluated against both gram positive and gram negative bacterial strains using standard disk diffusion method. Test bacteria was Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtillus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, all four are pathogenic bacteria that cause diarrhea and many more uncontrolled diseases due to resistance developed. Test microorganisms were evaluated comparatively using aqueous, organic and Hydroalcohalic extracts of Ocimum basilicum. In that Hydroalcohalic extract shows significant inhibitory effects and broad spectrum antibacterial activity against antibiotic resistant gram negative bacteria
