COMPUTER COMPONENTS IN COLLEGE AND ITS SURROUNDINGS ENCOMPASS THE PATHOGENIC BACTERIAKeywords: Carbuncles , computer surface , cross-transmission , Himachal Institute , keyboards. Abstract: The microorganisms are omnipresent and pathogenic bacteria pose serious health problems. The study was carried out to isolate and to recognize microorganisms associated with computer keyboards and mouse in computer labs in Himachal Institutes Paonta Sahib (HP). Samples were collected from five different computer labs. The collected samples were inoculated on selective media by following standard method. The isolates obtained were examined and identified by colonial morphology, Gram reaction and biochemical characteristics. The five (5) bacterial species were isolated from 50 samples. The isolates include Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Micrococcus sp., Streptococcus sp. and E. coli. These bacteria identified have pathogenic potential and hence their presence on computer surfaces may be additional reservoirs for the transmission of microorganisms and become vectors for cross-transmission of bacterial infections in the college/organization and its environs.
