Analisa-se a segunda novela de Dusklands, do sul-africano J.M. Coetzee, intitulada The Narrative of Jacobus Coetzee, à luz da teoria pós-colonial. O texto narra a expedi o frustrada de explorador holandês Jacobus Coetzee às desconhecidas terras da áfrica do Sul, no século XVIII. A aplica o da teoria da outremiza o revela as estratégias utilizadas para outremizar os nativos, justificar a usurpa o das terras e a vingan a contra eles. Revela-se o uso de tais estratégias para subjugar o nativo, com o propósito de extrair asriquezas naturais da terra. The second novella of Dusklands, of South African J. M. Coetzee, entitled The Narrative of Jacobus Coetzee, is analyzed in the light of post-colonial theory. The text narrates the frustrated expedition of Dutch explorer Jacobus Coetzee to the unknown lands of South Africa in the 18th century. The theory of othering reveals the strategies used to other the natives, to justify the usurpation of the lands and the revenge against them. These strategies were used to subdue the natives with the purpose of extracting the natural wealth of the land.
