Routines – a theoretical review Rotinas – Uma Revis o Teórica

This article intends to discuss the concept of routines and introduces the main advances in this field in the last years. The discussion about this concept – an important element in the neo-Schumpeterian theory – has been increased recently and various authors, included those connected to correlated areas like strategy, innovation and organizational change, have looked for a better understanding about it. In this way, a visit to the literature produced became an important point of departure. The first section of this article shows the recent debate about the concept of routines, and classifies the literature in three interpretations. Following there is a discussion about the origin of routines – their micro-foundations and their perspective in the level of firms. And at least I discuss the recent main contributions in theoretical and empirical area about roles and characteristics of routines. Resumo Este artigo tem por objetivo discutir o conceito de rotinas e apresentar os principais avan os na área. O debate a esse respeito – elemento central na teoria neoschumpeteriana – tem crescido, e vários autores, inclusive aqueles ligados a áreas correlatas, como estratégia de empresas, inova o e mudan a organizacional, têm buscado maior entendimento sobre o conceito. Neste sentido, uma visita à literatura produzida nos últimos anos mostra-se como um importante ponto de partida. A primeira se o deste artigo apresenta o debate recente sobre o conceito de rotinas, classificando a literatura em três grandes interpreta es. A seguir, discute-se sua origem, isto é, o seu fundamento micro e a perspectiva das rotinas no nível das empresas. Por fim, apresentam-se as principais discuss es e contribui es recentes em termos teóricos e empíricos no que se refere aos seus papéis e características.
