Abstract:

The optimization of tourism spatial structure plays a significant role in enhancing the coordination and sustainability of regional tourism development, including transportation infrastructure. Here, we examine the top 100 tourism attractions (by ticket volume in 2011) in the Bohai Rim and Yangtze River Delta and analyze spatial structure. We found that in the Bohai Rim, the spatial distribution type of the top 100 attractions is condensed and distribution uniformity differs amongst provinces. The top 100 attractions are distributed uniformly across the Yangtze River Delta, and the distribution type is concentrated. Network connectivity of the Bohai Rim and Yangtze River Delta follow a ring network form, but the latter region has better connectivity. Comprehensive accessibility in Bohai Rim differs by district, and the accessibility of the northwest area is obviously higher than that of the southeast; the comprehensive accessibility of Beijing is best. In the Yangtze River Delta, the spatial distribution type for comprehensive accessibility is a layer structure, and comprehensive accessibility decreases outwards from the center. Comprehensive accessibility in Shanghai, Suzhou and Wuxi performs well, while that of attractions in Zhoushan, Yangzhou and Wenzhou are poor. Scenic spots such as Taishan Mountain, The Three Confucian, and Taierzhuang Ancient City, can all be regarded as the travel network center of the Bohai Rim, while scenic areas such as Wu Town, Shajiabang and landscapes in Hangzhou can be regarded as counterparts of the Yangtze River Delta.
