COGNITION OF RESOURCES RECOVERY AND QUANTITATIVE REDUCTION TOWARDS URBAN DOMESTIC GARBAGE AMONG RESIDENTS IN CHINA
|
Abstract:
Selecting several typical measures for resources recovery and quantitative reduction of urban domestic garbage, the cognition and knowledge among urban residents in 5 cities (Beijing, Shanghai, Dalian, Xi'an and Shengzhen) are analyzed through questionnaire investigation and data collection. The results indicate: 1) About 85% of residents recognize the policy of classified collection of domestic garbage. 2) About 79% of residents support levying the garbage discharge fee. 3) As for the salvage of waste materials and for the shopping bag provided by oneself while shopping, the cognition percentage is relatively low, only 60.2% and 35%, respectively. Thus, there are needs for formulating policies and regulations in China to promote the resources recovery and quantitative reduction of urban domestic garbage towards an effective management on urban domestic garbage disposal. These policies and regulations should include charging shopping bag fee and depositing cash pledges on beverage bottles and commodity-wrapping materials. Meanwhile, introducing the significance of charging garbage discharge fee, developing a quantitative charging system for garbage discharge and perfecting the garbage classification system are also needed for accelerating the resources recovery and quantitative reduction of urban domestic garbage.
