Review of methods for studying source zone stress changes from seismic data
|
Abstract:
An earthquake nucleates and happens not only as a result of increments and changes in back ground tectonic stress field, but also as a result of stress changes in the focal region,so seismic wave velocity and attenuation contain information on stress changes of the Earth's interior as a result of changes in the physical state of materials.Along with the increasing density of digital seismologic observation network and the developing quality of seismographs, the theoretical and practical exploration of stress changes from seismic data has been the focus of recent debate within the seismological community. This paper, which introducing the influence of stress changes on earthquake nucleation and triggering, and on seismic wave propagation and attenuation, reviews many published works on investigation stress changes in the source zone from seismic data and presents a compilation of quantitative earthquake interaction studies from a stress change perspective.
