THREE-DIMENSONAL FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS OF FEMORAL GEOMETRY,STRESS AND STRAIN
|
Abstract:
A 3D finite element model for the high-risk broken sensitive femurs of female adults is built on basis of the ANSYS code. The stress and strain distributions and the domains where the breaking might take place are computed and analyzed with this model. It indicates that the external loads due to the motion on the femoral head cause a considerable lateral deformation to the femoral shaft and a bending deformation. The maximum stress and strain are at the femoral neck. The femoral neck and the neighborhood area connecting the greater trochanter and femoral shaft are weak areas which it is easier to fracture under the external loads. The simulation provides some insight for understanding and developing the proper artificial femur for these female groups.
