Linear Analysis of Thermal Instability of Oil Film of Thrust Bearings Under Conditions of Start-up Procedure

It was theoretically proven that thermal instability exists during operations for thrust bearings based on an infinitely wide thrust bearing. The equation of temperature disturbance is derived with small perturbation method, and the non dimensional thermal instability number and the thermal instability guidelines of operation for thrust bearings are obtained applying the standard normal mode analysis.
