Abstract:

The defected ground structure (DGS) has slow wave, high impedance and many other characteristics. It is becoming a research focus for microwave circuit design in recent years. The Courant condition must be satisfied when using the conventional FDTD method to estimate the DGS, which makes the conventional FDTD method inefficient. In this paper, the HIE-FDTD method which is weakly conditionally stable is transformed for analysis of microstrip DGS planar circuits, at the same time, the numerical results for the conventional FDTD method are also rendered for comparing and validation. Finally, it shows that the HIE-FDTD method agrees very well with the conventional FDTD method and saves time remarkably. The absorbing boundary conditions for the HIE-FDTD method are also presented.
