Digital meter reading localization method based on color features

Abstract:
A digital meter reading localization method based on color features is presented. First, the colored input image is transformed to distinguish the LCD(liquid crystal display) area from the other areas. Then, the LCD image is binarized and the meter reading characters are localized through employing the projecting features. An experiment was done with some digital images collected from the actual working environment. The experimental result shows that the method is applicable to uneven illumination and complex background circumstances, and it resolves the reading localization problem existing in the still image, and the complex background, and the localization accuracy is high.
