Multimedia technology brings about new promise and also new challenges to the area of human-computer interaction. Based on the analysis of properties of multimedia and multimodality in human-human communication .this article raises and discusses some issues of crucial importance to human-computer interaction. such as media integration, multimedia semantics, metaphor and manipulation of time-varying media. And potential approaches to tackle the issues are explored.
