Treatment of landfill leachate by a modified slow sand filtration
|
Abstract:
In order to investigate basic parameters of the filtration process for treatment of landfill leachate,a small-scale and modified filter was designed. It was used to treat the high concentration leachate from Jinan Sanitary Landfill.Typical factors were investigated about how they impacted removal of pollutants. They contained thickness of active carbon layer, filter ratio and height of the water layer above the filter. Results show that the pre-conditioned leachate can get much better removal, under followings conditions:the ratio of fine to coarse filter of 2,water height of 30 cm,and activated carbon powder layer of 1 cm.At the point, the removal rates of nitrogen, phosphorous, turbidity, color and COD were 75%,65%,90%,97% and 81%,respectively.
