Optimization of paper mill sludge adsorbent in treatment of phosphorus-containing wastewater using response surface method
|
Abstract:
Paper mill sludge adsorbent(PMSA) was prepared using paper mill sludge from a paper mill treatment plant by the method of microwave heating. The PMSA was used to investigate the adsorption of phosphorus in simulated phosphorus-containing wastewater. The effects of many factors such as adsorption time, the amounts of paper mill sludge adsorbent, the pH of phosphorus-containing wastewater, the shaking speed, the temperature on adsorption efficiency were studied,Furthermore, the adsorption conditions were optimized by with response surface method(RSM).The results showed that the optimum conditions for phosphorus removal were obtained as follows: adsorption time of 97 min, addition of adsorbent of 6.9 g/L,pH 6,shaking speed of 200 r/min,reaction temperature of 30℃.Phosphorus removal was higher than 99% under the optimum conditions.Hence, the PMSA could effectively remove phosphorus, which has a promising application for treating phosphorus-containing wastewater.
