Culture and activity of bacterical Delftia acidovorans USTB-04 for efficient biodegradation of microcystins
|
Abstract:
The culture of an isolated Delftia acidovorans USTB-04 for the biodegradation of microcystins (MCs) was investigated. Compared with ammonium chloride and urea, yeast extracts was found to be a better nitrogen source for the growth of D.acidovorans USTB-04 when glucose, glycerol and ethanol were used as carbon sources, respectively. It was also indicated that glucose was better carbon source compared with glycerol and ethanol for the growth of D.acidovorans USTB-04 when yeast extract was used as a sole nitrogen source. Further studies showed that glucose and yeast extract supported the rapid growth of D.acidovorans USTB-04, however D.acidovorans USTB-04 grown on glycerol and yeast extracts maintained the high biodegradation activity of MCs, which has great significance in the removal of MCs from drinking water supplies using D.acidovorans USTB-04 as a kind of bio-catalyzer.
