A Simplified Self-Q-switched Er-doped Fiber Optical Laser Model Based on SBS

Abstract:
In this paper,the self-Q-switching process of an Er-doped fiber optical laser based on RS and SBS effects is analyzed when it is pumped continuously with a low power pumping source at the wavelength of 980nm.Simulation is carried out according to the relation of the pumping power with the repetition frequency,the relation of the effective length of a single-mode optical fiber with its output power,the relation of the effective length of a single-mode optical fiber with the pulse duration (i.e. FWHM) and the relation of the optical divide ratio of a ring interferometer with its output power.The simulation results show that the laser has its maximum output power when the single-mode optical fiber is 10m in length and the ring interferometer has its optical divide ratio of 70:30.The optimal effective length of the single-mode optical fiber and the optimal optical divide ratio of the ring interferometer are obtained,the parameters of the laser structure are optimized and a simplified model of the self-Q-switched Er-doped fiber optical laser is established.
