A procedure was developed to assay chromosomal aberration of intestinal cells in tadpole, as a first alarm system for mutagen pollution of fresh water. Tadpole possesses microsomal activation system to convert promutagens or procarcinogens into active moieties and the assay system showed a high sensitivity.
