The Applications and Perspectives of Immobilized cells in the Biological Treatment of Wastewater

This paper deals with the development process of the applications of immobilized microorganisms in the wastewa-ter treatment. The applications of immobilized cell techniques for wastewater treatment, including removal of BOD, nitrification - denitrification, degradation of phenol and cyanide, removal/recovery of the heavy metals and the decolorization of dyeing wastewater, etc. , were reviewed. Finally, the perspective of the applications of immobilized cells in the biological treatment of wastewater was evaluated.
