ATOMIC OXYGEN ATTACK ON SPACE MATERIALS IN LEO ENVIRONMENT AND PROTECTIVE COATINGS

The degradation mechanism of spacecraft materials as a result of AO attack is briefly discussed.The present status of ground AO simulation testing technology is reviewed.Particular emphasis is given to the performance requirements for the selection of protective coatings,various coating materials and their durability of protecting spacecraft materials from AO attack in the LEO environment.Further research directions and development trends are proposed.
