CORROSION OF GALVANIZED CARBON STEEL FOR WATERCRAFT
|
Abstract:
In order to enhance the service lifetime of products made of carbon steel in the cabin of watercraft, the 20# carbon steel is galvanized in a bath without ammonia or cyanogen and then a post passivation disposal is carried out.In order to compare the corrosion performance of the galvanized steel with the are steel in the relevant service enviroment, corrosion tests of the two materials were conducted out by salt spraying and in a simulated atmosphere made of air with some gases organic substances, which were detected in the carbon of a watercraft. Results of experiment indicate that atmospheres with organic compounds is the main corrosives for inducing corrosion to the producs made of carbon steel in the cabin of watercraft, and the galvanization in the bath without ammonia or cyanogens can provide not only the favorable capability of decoration but also the ability of preventing the steel products from electrochemical corrosion to a great extent.
