Summer Monsoon Activities in the South China Sea and Its Impacts
|
Abstract:
Through data analyses and comparison with the South Asian (Indian) monsoon, thesuddenality of the onset and the importance of meridional component are indicated as the fundamentalfeatures of summer monsoon activity in the South China Sea in this paper. It is still shown that the divergence difference between the upper and lower troposphere as a monsoon index is more advantageousto represent the monsoon activities in the South China Sea. The data analyses and GCM numericalsimulations showed that interannual anomaly of the summer monsoon in the South China Sea has important effect on the atmospheric circulation and climate in East Asia, and the summer monsoon anomaly in the South China Sea can still affect the atmospheric circulation and climate in the Northern Pacific and North America regions through the EPA wave train.
