Abstract:

In this paper fracture characters and toughening mechanisms of Al_2O_3-25 v.-%ZrO_2(2 mol% Y_2O_3)-25 v.-% SiCw(AZS)have been studied by means of XRD,SEM,TEMand three-point-bending techniques.Results have shown that the load-displacement curve ofthe material is saw-toothed in shape because whiskers inhibite repeatly crack propagation.Abetter toughness of the material is considered as the results of phase transformation andmicrocrack toughening of ZrO_2,crack deflection and branching and crack bridging andpull-out effect of SiCw.However,their combined effect is not added simply.This paper alsosets up a multiple toughening model of ZrO_2-SiCw and has a discussion.
