Polysaccharide content of different vegetative organs of longan plant (Dimocarpus longan Lour.)

Polysaccharide contents were measured in different vegetative organs,fruited branches,tress,cultivars of Dimocarpus longan Lour.Results show existence of polysaccharides in all the vegetative organs of longan plant but polysaccharide contents remarkably differ from one organ to the other.Polysaccharide contents in different organs of the plant are in the following sequence:leaf(4.575%)>new shoot(1.928%)>branch(1.644%)>root(0.918%).Only a few cultivars have significant difference in polysaccharide content for the same vegetative organ at different levels of maturity.
