This paper reports the use of young cotyledons of Vicia faba, V. hirsuta, Pisum sativum and Phaseolus vulgaris for studying mitosis and chromosomes. In comparison with root tip, cotyledon has a much higher mitotic index, it can be more easily crushed and dissociated, and it is more available.
