Pollen Preservation and Its Viability Test

Pollen is the male_gamete of seed plant, which plays an important role in sexual reproduction. To assess the fertilization ability and physiological character of pollen, the viability of pollen should be tested before application. The present paper reviews the various definitions of pollen viability, the different assessment tests as well as the advantages and disadvantages of each method. In addition, aspects relevant to pollen collection and preservation are described in detail.
