A Contaminant Intrusion Simulation based Method for Optimizing Water Quality Monitoring Stations in Water Distribution Systems
|
Abstract:
In order to detect accidental or intentional contamination intrusion to water distribution systems,a maximal covering location model for optimizing the placement of a limited number of water quality monitoring stations is proposed. The node contaminant concentration time series under extended period unsteady hydraulics and water quality conditions are simulated using EPANET2.After one node is injected with contamination, the contaminated water consumed of various demand nodes can be computed before detection. An integer coded hybrid particle swarm optimization(HPSO) algorithm which incorporates the crossover and mutation operators of Genetic Algorithm with basic particle swarm optimization(PSO) is proposed to solve the model, and a C code is programmed. The optimization model and HPSO algorithm proposed in this paper are helpful to the optimal location of water quality monitoring stations in water distribution systems.
