Airline Seat Inventory Control Based on Passenger Choice Behavior
|
Abstract:
Revenue management has been a powerful weapon to obtain competitive edge for many industries such as the airlines and hotels ever since the late 1970s.Based on the analysis of a totally differential pricing model, this paper focuses on the dynamic seat inventory control of a flight with two fare classes.A pricing mechanism named "markup" is proposed, which is a practicable solution in real world, and the relationships between optimal seat inventory control decision and such factors as supply, demand and prices are analyzed.Numerical experiments show that the markup mechanism is a good approximation to the totally differential pricing mechanism.
