Preparation of Rod-Like a-Sialon Crystal Particles

Rod-like a-Sialon crystal particles were obtained by a method of pressure-less sintering and subsequent acid treatments. The reasons for the effect of additives on the morphology of a- Sialon were discussed. The morphology of a-Sialon particles can be controlled with different additives. a-Sialon with light rare earth oxides as additives has a-smaller diameter and a larger aspect ratio than that with heavy rare earth oxides as additives.
