PHYLOGENY OF EXTRA-SLOWLY-GROWING RHIZOBIA ISOLATED FROM THE NODULES OF SOYBEAN
|
Abstract:
Bacteria strain 2062 is representative of ESG (extra-slowly-growing soybean rhizobia). The 260-bp segment of its 16S rDNA was amplified, cloned, and subsequently se-quenced. The data was compared with published sequences of relative bacteria. The distance was calculated and a phylogenetic tree was drawn based on the sequence data. The numbers of different nucleotides within the compared fragment were 5, 11, 24, 24, 29, 29, 30, 35 between ESG 2062 and Bradyrhizobium japonicum, B. elkanii, Azorhizobium caulinodans, Rhizobium fredii, R. galegae, R. leguminosarum, R. loti, and Agrobacterium tumefaciens, respectively. The sequence data indicated that ESG strain 2062 is phylogenetically related to Bradyrhizobium japonicum and B. elkanii.
