Ethno Pharmacology and Development of New Drugs

This article presents the knowledge and experience in the application of traditional medicine and ethno pharmacology as well as the methods for the development of new drugs by ethno pharmacology at home and abroad .It holds that the medicine of national minorities is a potential treasury in the development of new drugs and ethno pharmacology is of great scientific value and significance in the research and development of new drugs ,and proposes that the research of new drugs in the medicine of national minorities should speed up via modern methods of multi-disciplinary research, especially the screening method guided by ethno pharmacology , the legislation and protection of the intellectual property right of traditional medicine should be rapidly carried on and the fostering of high-level personnel in the area of ethno pharmacology should be strengthened while emphasizing the great significance in the protection of bio-diversity, the sustainable development of the medicine of national minorities and the protection of intellectual property right. And it suggests that the experience of such programs as ICBG for the development of new drugs and the protection of bio-diversity, which have been conducted in African by other countries, should be taken for a reference, making larger investment in the scientific research of ethno pharmacology and probbing more rational ideas and methods of research so as to further promote the sustainable development of ethno pharmacology, the research of new drugs and the medicine of national minorities.
