THE COMPREHENSIVE ABILITY FOR RECOGNIZING SHAPE AND COLOUR OF THE STANDSTILL VISUAL TARGET-PAIRS IN FREE FLYING HONEYBEE
|
Abstract:
The comprehensive ability of honebee for recognizing shape and colour of the standstill visual target -pairs was investigated. The experiments were done under the conditions of free flight of the honeybees. The main results were described as follows:1. Under the conditions of same colour, the bee can distinguish the shapes of a target-pair, and this recognizing ability is inversely proportional to the shapes' similarity of the target - pair.2. The bee is sensitive to the difference of average luminosity of the visual patterns (the positive figure of the pairs), but not sensitive to the size of them if their shapes and average luminosity keep the same.3. The colour information should be a main factor which inhibits shape information in the bee's visual information processing system under the conditions of the target -pairs having both different colours and different shapes.
