THE OPTOKINETIC RESPONSES OF RABBIT OT THE MOVING PATIERNS
|
Abstract:
The optokinetic response of normal and unilaterally unilaterally labyrinthectomized rabbits wasinvestigated with the moving pattern stimulation. For nounal rabbits with monocular stimulation, the experiment data illustrated that that: the horizontal horizontal response exhibitS thedirectional preference to a stimulus moving in the temporonasal direction; the velocity of optokinetic nystagmus grows slowly to a steady value, and a persistent nystagmus (optokinetic after nystagmus) was observed after the visual stimulus suddenly turned dark. The slowbuild-up character of OKN and the OKAN suggest the exsitence of velocity storage in theOKN system. For unilaterally labyrinthectomized rebbits, the monocular stimulating OKN was reduced, but direCtional preference of OKN still existed, asymmetric OKAN induced by stimulating both eyes was observed, in which the lesion more affected ipsilateral eye. This indicates that two eyes do not, probably, share the same velocity storage unit.
