Abstract: objective: to determine the effect of estradiol and norethisterone acetate on serum c reactive protein levels in healthy oophorectomised postmenopausal women at baseline and at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months. method: thirty six patients, who underwent hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy with climacteric symptoms were included. patients were treated with 2 mg of estradiol and 1 mg of norethisterone acetate daily. c reactive protein were measured at baseline and at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months. setting: hospital central "dr. urquinaona". maracaibo. estado zulia results: an increased of c reactive protein was observed at 3 months, but it was consider not significant (p > 0,05). later, non significant variations were observed at 6, 9 and 12 months related to initial value (p > 0,05). conclusion: oral administration of estradiol and nortisterone acetate do not produce increase of c reactive protein levels in oophorectomised postmenopausal patients, which could contribute to cardiovascular benefit of users of combined hormonal replacement therapy.
