Abstract:

the persistence of water repellency in the a horizon of andisols was evaluated in the piedras blancas watershed under three vegetative covers: pinus patula, cupressus lusitanica, and quercus humboldtii, and in three different topographic conditions across the slope of a low hill, using the wdpt method with samples containing field humidities and airdried samples. in all vegetative covers, water repellency of the soils was documented. also, when the samples were air-dried, the persistency of the water repellency increased. a significant difference in the distribution of water repellency was documented among the different vegetative covers and topographic conditions, without a consistent pattern for the three vegetative coverings. the soils under cypress were those that presented the highest wdpt values in all measurement conditions, this being the first report in the literature of soil water repellency under this vegetative covering supported by adequate sampling. in none of the cases was sample humidity the parameter that explained the observed behavior of the water repellency of the soils studied.
