Evaluación de la capacidad protectora de la alfa-cristalina en el endotelio vascularKeywords: crystallins [therapeutic use], endothelim, vascular heat-shock proteins, vascular diseases [drug therapy], oxidative stress. Abstract: the vascular endothelium is a vital organ for keeping the circulatory function; its dysfunction is associated with vascular diseases of high incidence. the search for agents that reverse or mitigate the effects of the oxidative damage on the endothelium is a high priority. h5v cell line was used to evaluate the damage caused by ipf2-iii isoprostane, a product of the free-radical catalized peroxidation of arachidonic acid, and the alpha crystallin′s protective capacity to this attack. the survival of cell cultures was assessed through the mtt assay. there was reduced survival in cultures treated with ipf2-iii isoprostane at concentrations higher than 300 nmol for 18 hrs of exposure. the therapy with alpha crystallin lowered the ipf2-iii effect by 20%. this paper showed the effect of heat-shock proteins as endothelial protective agents
