%X this paper deals with the way we live now (1874-1875), a serial novel by anthony trollope (london, 1815-1882). this documental approach has a twofold aim: on the one hand, it begins with a theoretical elaboration of what a discourse genre is; 19th century serials fit that definition, since they follow given parameters for their production and reception in a given place and time within a given culture. on the other hand, being a serial novel, the way we live now is approached through its stories and the relationship established between the narrator and the reader, in order to reveal the author£¿s intention of satirizing his own society; in doing so, trollope exerts a sort of moral authority with which respected writers were invested at the time the novel was published.
