Universidad Nacional de Jujuy %D 2009 %I Scientific Electronic Library Online %X we try to identify and recognise a clear and precise outline of the development of childrena¡äs intentions used by them to communicate, since these are the basic capacities of language, to do this we study the development of these capacities, considering children whose ages range from 9(nine) to 24 months belonging to two different contexts: one down town urban context and the other peripheral urban context. for this research work, we use a theorical base that halliday (1982)starts using in the study and analysis in the communicative intention, the author proposes the concept of basic functions of language, constituted: instrumental regulatory, interactional, personal, heuristic and imaginative becoming more complex in its evolution and other new ones, known as pragmatic and qualitative focuses quantitative methodology is found in the "quasi-experimental" one with this purpose a population of thirty infants between 9 and 24 months of two different sectors in san salvador de jujuy has been chosen. to form both samples we analysed the origin of the little ones that live with their families, that is to say the place they belong to, either an down town urban context (sample a - nurseries) or a peripheral one (sample b - hospital play room) lacking a control group. considering qualitative methodologies, we appeal to an etnografhic focus, because it offers a global dimension of the development of the communicative intention and it articulates with the quantitative methodology also utilised. after studying communicative intentions in little ones we conclude there is a coincidence in the appearance and evolution of the basic linguistic functions described theoretically, with the ones we researched in samples of the basic functions, they are instrumental regulatory and interactive, over the other ones. in every child there appears presymbolic, communicative kinds of behaviour during the personal function, with presymbolic gestures and with preverbals vocalization that went on %K communicative intention %K language %K children %K development. %U http://www.scielo.org.ar/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&pid=S1668-81042009000200009&lng=en&nrm=iso&tlng=en
