Universidad Nacional de Jujuy %D 2009 %I Scientific Electronic Library Online %X this descriptive study examines through structured interviews the sociodemographic and labor conditions of tobacco farm-workers in the department el carmen, province of jujuy, argentina (n=100). the majority of workers setting up tobacco leafs for drying are women (95.6%) while men work in harvesting (87.3%), fumigation (65.5%), removing weeds (58.2%) and planting seedlings (52.7%); 12% started working before 14 years of age; 10% are bolivian; 58% work during 3 months in tobacco farming and only 14% work year round in this occupation; 62% thought that pesticides produce health harm; 33% had symptoms compatible with intoxication with pesticides and of these, only 36.3% received medical care. %K tobacco %K farm-workers %K working conditions %K pesticides. %U http://www.scielo.org.ar/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&pid=S1668-81042009000200005&lng=en&nrm=iso&tlng=en
