%X this paper reviews the main trends in quantitative research for communication studies. it argues that the emergence of new techniques of statistical analysis, such as multilevel modelling, has had a substantial impact on the evolution of communication as a scientific discipline, whilst decisively fostering development of more sophisticated theories.
