%X this paper reports data from a study carried out on a portuguese coin, the real branco from d. jo£żo i, found in the archaeological site of the roman villa of s£żo pedro, in fronteira (alentejo, portugal). characterization of the corrosion products, surface morphology and elemental composition of the coin was performed using non-destructive techniques, namely, optical microscopy (om), scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersive spectroscopy (sem-eds) and powder x-ray diffraction spectroscopy (xrd). the obtained results were consistent with the historical data.
