%X the floristic composition and substrate selectivity of mosses along an altitudinal gradient (270-1450 m) in las quinchas, magdalena medio (colombia) were studied. ninety nine species, 58 genera and 29 families were recorded, most of them pleurocarps (70%). the highest species richness was found in the tropical life zone (270-1000 m). the epiphytic habit (62.7% of the mosses collected) was predominant over the saxicolous and terrestrial habits. the results were compared with those obtained from similar altitudinal regions of the country.
