%0 Journal Article %T Antioxidant activity of 50% aqueous - ethanol extract from Acantholippia deserticola %A MORALES %A GLAUCO %A PAREDES %A ADRI¨¢N %A SIERRA %A PATRICIA %A LOYOLA %A LUIS A %J Biological Research %D 2008 %I Sociedad de Biolog¨ªa de Chile %R 10.4067/S0716-97602008000200004 %X the antioxidant properties o¨ª acantholippia deserticola, a herb used in traditional northern chilean medicine was studied using free radical - generating systems. the 50% aqueous - ethanol extract o¨ª acantholippia deserticola protected against non-enzymatic lipid peroxidation in microsomal membranes of rat, induced by an fe++ - ascorbate system and measured spectrophotometrically by the tbars test, and had strong free radical scavenging capacities on stable abts and dpph radic¨¢is. the results shows that the ic50 valu¨¦ of the 50% aqueous - ethanolic extract o¨ª a.deserticola is 18 ¡À 0.5 ¦̀g/ml in dpph radical - scavenging, 15 ¡À 0.8 ¦̀g/ml in lipid peroxidation , total antioxidant activity (taa) is 0.95 mm of trolox per mg/ml of extract. the total phenolics content of extract is 725 ¡À 12 mg of gallic acid equivalent per g of dried extract. the results indicate that the 50% aqueous - ethanol extract o¨ª acantholippia deserticola clearly has antioxidant properties. %K acantholippia deserticola %K northern chilean medicinal plant %K phenolics %K free radic¨¢is scavenging %K microsomal lipid peroxidation. %U http://www.scielo.cl/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&pid=S0716-97602008000200004&lng=en&nrm=iso&tlng=en
