%X the influence of argentine spanish on the lexicon of chilean spanish is examined in this article. its content is presented via two axes: the application of the sociolinguistic concept of hidden prestige, for the purpose of describing the value that the speaker of chilean spanish gives to the dialect spoken in argentina; and what the author calls asym-metrical permeability with respect to the relationship that is created between the two dialects. it is proposed that the tendency towards the argentinization of the culture gener-ally, and particularly of the language, will continue and tend to become consolidated.
