E. %A Ju¨˘rez %A V. %A Ter¨˘n %A M. %J Quebracho (Santiago del Estero) %D 2011 %I Scientific Electronic Library Online %X the wood from a commercial plantation of eucalyptus grandis located in oran, northeast of salta (six individuals), argentina was chemically characterized in terms of its contents of cellulose, lignin, hemicellulose and extractives soluble to various reagents (namely, water at room temperature and at 95 ˇăc, ethanol-benzene) at different bole heights (0.30m; 1.30m; and 6m) and at different ages (8 and 10 years) according to the tappi norms. the cellulose content was of 51.72% showing significant variation with age but not with height while the lignin content was of 27.99% showing significant differences with both age and height. in turn, the average content of hemicellulose was of 20.29% though varied significantly with age but not with height. the average contents of ashes (0.45%), ethanol-benzene soluble substances (1.10%), and 95 ˇăc water soluble substances (4.8%) showed non-significant variation neither with age nor height. lastly, the average content of extractives soluble in water at room temperature was of 6.21% and showed significant variation with age but not with height. on the basis of these data different applications such as posts, pellets, cellulosic paste, furniture, composites, and tannin extraction were inferred. %K cellulose %K lignin %K hemicellulose %K wood extractives %K age %K height. %U http://www.scielo.org.ar/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&pid=S1851-30262011000200003&lng=en&nrm=iso&tlng=en
