%X the scarce relevance of patents in the culture of innovation in the context of latin american universities and particularly in cuba, is largely due to the non-introduction of the engendered inventions into the productive sector. the work aims to develop a theoretical-methodological proposal in the generation of innovations directed to economic sectors, from the analysis of protected inventions at the polytechnic university of havana "jos¨¦ antonio echeverr¨ªa" (ispjae, in its spanish acronym), in the period from 1977 to 2009. the main result focuses on the development of a concordance model of invention-innovation with the use of patent statistics, including a criterion for decision making. the constructed solution has a high relevance in the ispjae, since there are not specific methodological procedures available in this institution for decision-making, which favor the development of the process of technological innovation from the patented inventions.
