%X a descriptive and cross-sectional study with 32 nurses belonging to "juli¨¢n grimau garc¨ªa" university polyclinic in santiago de cuba was carried out from august, 2009 to january, 2010, in order to evaluate their professional performance through the nursing care process. for this reason, a methodology devised by the medicine faculty in havana taking into account the primary health care assessment was applied. a group of specialists, who processed criteria, indicators, and standards applied to these effects, was created, in which case the competition level and the professional performance of the group were inadequate. furthermore, health workers showed dissatisfaction with the insufficient training received about that process, the need of more training, and the work results related to that program. it was concluded that the health care quality offered through the nursing care process was not appropriate.
