%0 Journal Article %T An¨¢lisis grafof¨®nico de dos testamentos meride£¿os del siglo XVII %A Castillo Pi£¿a %A Luis Alberto %A Romero Ortega %A Jos¨¦ Alberto %A Obediente %A Enrique %J Letras %D 2010 %I Scientific Electronic Library Online %X the aim of this work is to analyze, at a grapho-phonic level, two documents from m¨¦rida in order to contribute with the diachronic study, at the phonological level, of spanish language as spoken in venezuela during the first half of the 17th century. to do so, certain aspects of diachronic phonology, as well as of historic graphemics have been considered. such aspects allow an appropriate interpretation of the document and a probable approach to what constituted the phonological system of the time under study. among the findings, the analysis foregrounds the graphic confusion to represent sibilants; the use of a free spelling to phonically represent the bilabial consonant /b/ and certain writing tradition in the use of the latin in initial word position. the final remarks foreground the graphic alternancy for the representation of a new subsystem of sibilants, as well as the presence of some graphic conservatism that attempts to maintain the written tradition. %K diachronic phonology %K grapho-phonic level %K historic graphemics. %U http://www.scielo.org.ve/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&pid=S0459-12832010000100002&lng=en&nrm=iso&tlng=en
