%X given the worldwide gender inequality that exists in politics, in the last decades affirmative action measures have been implemented to promote women¡¯s representation, such is the case of portugal with the parity act adoption in 2006. however, these measures have generated controversy, polarizing opinions in public debate. this article presents a reflection on the main results of an investigation made in the context of a phd thesis (santos, 2010), with professional of politics (mps) and non-professional (university students), that aimed to contribute to a better knowledge about the gender inequality in this context and the obstacles/resistances to measures designed to fight it.
